With Space

I’ve been working regularly this year, building my brave, owning my style, my voice. Not just in my art, also in my spirituality, my body, my marriage, my friendships. It’s not going smoothly. It’s rough. I’m feeling unsure, clunky, and alone.

But these colors keep coming through. Vibrant. Strong. Alive. I think that’s me — all of us, really — underneath it all.

Emily, I love, love, love your work and your determination. Can tell me how you do the white drawings that are in your pages? are they free hand or stencil. I just love them, they really intrigue me/ Thanks

Thank you so much! I learned how to transfer images shapes (outlines) from Orly Avinieri using carbon paper. I’m a horrible draw-er — really. (My mom is amazing, but I didn’t get the gene!) I take an image I like, enlarge or shrink it on a photocopy machine, then trace over it (roughly) with white carbon paper. Then I play with it — erasing, making, or filling others in — with a gelli pen. 🙂 Lemme know if you try it! I’d love to see what you come up with!

Emily, that is so cool. I have used that transfer technique on my greeting cards, never thought of using it in my artwork and in my journals. Oh my, you have opened up my world. will show you what I come up with. Thanks for being so sharing.

Beautiful Emily……rough, clunky and alone happens for me too. Thanks for naming those. When your art shows up with such vibrancy we know that other things are going on as well. Loving your posts! Keep them up!!! Thank you……
