In Flora Bowley’s painting e-class, I am reminded {constantly} that I am not in control. I got up early this morning so I could paint. Half-way through,as I was doing well with my playful process, not ‘trying’ or forcing anything, my 5 year old comes in: he wants to paint too. This is the reason I got up at 6:00. So I wouldn’t be interrupted. (*sigh*)

Let. go. of. control. ALL of it.

Working with “value contrast”, (essentially the difference between light and dark — black and white are the extremes), I got this far today.

And watching him, seeing how much he loves, truly loves to paint — with the freedom and playfulness I’m shooting for — helps. I’m a little begrudging, after all I got up early! But it’s fun to see him so free.

And I’m getting there too. Though I don’t know why the pictures post sideways… :/

Sitting in a New York coffee shop

I’m sitting in a New York coffee shop, and I notice a 30-something woman sitting next to me, anxiously studying lines for an audition.
Memories flood back to me of all those days when I did the same. Worrying. Hoping. Dreaming. Worrying. What if they don’t like me? What if I screw up? What happens if I get the job? Would I be famous? Could I still go to Target? Would I be lonely?
All those questions… Shooting myself in the foot before I even got in the door. Seems to me, flow goes where The Big One wants to go, not where we push and force it to go.
I’m glad I’m out of the business at times like this. I’m glad I’m not that girl, anxiously tapping her foot, biting her cheek, saying words to herself. Worrying.
